Attitude Check – How do you Really Feel About Social Media?  Do You Like truly like social media?

•             Seriously. Have you ever really stopped to think about whether or not you actually like social media? It’s an important consideration and one which often comes up among social media consulting firms. Of course, most small business owners need to use social media but that isn’t the same as really liking it.

It’s an important question because your relationship to social media marketing is often at the foundation of successful implementation. It’s especially pertinent when dealing with industries like real estate that require a more “hands on” approach as compared to the typical “sit and wait” scenario.

•             When asked whether or not they liked social media marketing, the vast majority of people immediately respond with “Yes – Of course!” but upon closer inspection, their behavior often doesn’t support this premise. The key to understanding your relationship to social media is to get real – be brave enough to take a good hard look at how you treat your online communications, how it makes you feel and what you do to support it. Like any relationship, actions often speak louder than words. Take this quick quiz to discover your true feelings on the topic:

•             T/F – I enjoy keeping track of my Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and other accounts.

•             T/F – I am comfortable with posting, contributing and networking on behalf of my business including legal considerations.

•             T/F – I am always on the look-out for better business prospects, new investments and growth opportunities.

•             T/F – I do not glorify online marketing nor sites with more friends/contacts than I have but instead, attempt to learn from them.

•             T/F – I enjoy making new connections simply for the sake of doing it. It’s not how I define myself as a person but rather a tool to be enjoyed and used.

•             T/F – I teach others how to respect their own communication styles.

•             Give yourself 1 point for each “True” response above. If you scored 8 or above then you fall within the category of liking social media marketing. A score between 4-8 indicates an average response. Below 4 indicates a discomfort with money.
