How to Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude this Thanksgiving

‘Tis the season to give thanks but with tight credit lines, high unemployment and tough competition, small business owners need to get creative. Fortunately, social media consulting agencies understand how to tap into the gratitude of consumers without sacrificing time tested traditions. Keep reading to find out how to communicate an attitude of gratitude to your clients and customers.

1. Build some excitement! Remember those advent calendars that counted down the days until Christmas (or Hanukah etc).  Inspire some good old-fashioned anticipation by providing a single treat, tip, discount or other daily invitation to engage. Not only is it a terrific way to stay in touch with clients but it provides some much needed holiday cheer.

2. Take a walk down memory lane. Revisit themes of yesterday by posting photo’s, sharing great recipe ideas or other unique ways to encourage sharing of sentimental ideas. Better yet, share photo’s of your own business over the years or ask for testimonials from others that remember doing business.

3. Run a promotion. Everyone loves discounts especially at this time of the year. Rather than post a single promotion over and over, consider running time-limited functions online. Contests that encourage others to share information, drop by in person or otherwise engage are both fun and effective social media campaigns.

4. Share. Whether you want to contribute to a favorite charity or just build awareness over the work of others, take time to inspire others by sharing good news. Deeds of self-sacrifice, volunteer agencies, exceptional individuals and others all deserve a little lime-light; make it a priority to spread the word.

5. Surprise Others! Select someone at random for special recognition or a small treat.

6. Get Personal. Just this morning a new baby was born to a local business owner; the out pouring of personal greetings and warm wishes was by far the warmest responsive imagined. Business is about relationships – don’t go overboard but make the faces behind the name “real”.

7. Say Thanks! Last but not least, to cultivate an attitude of gratitude…be sure to publically say thanks to those that make your small business a success!
