Ready or Not Here it Comes…Interactive Buttons

Social media consulting agencies are already preparing for the next stage in connecting with clients – but are you ready? A few select Facebook users are starting to see the new “listen” or “read” buttons on the Ticker with a full roll-out anticipated for the near future.

The Change

If it seems like the Facebook Ticker is still “new”…well, you are right. It’s not been that long but remember, online time is in a world of its own. Things move and change a lot faster (one more reason trying to go it alone is never easy in the world of social media marketing!).  Currently, viewers see a scrolling update of what others within their network are doing, watching or interacting with. The new change will have a small “read” or “listen” button that allows the viewer to be directly connected with the article, song or other resource.

The Implications

Wondering what the implications are for your business? Well, it really all depends upon your connections and content. It’s important to understand that each Facebook user decides what to show and share with others; privacy settings allow users to broadcast nearly every move they make online and share music and media choices with others or basically keep their online activities private; sharing only when desired. From a marketing perspective, open users provide a higher value with the potential of reaching an even wider and more diverse audience. On the other hand, a testimonial or share from someone that opts to place information directly on their wall may carry more weight in the long run. Either way, good content is no longer sufficient. GREAT content is what is needed to grab attention and keep it going.

Keep in mind, the Ticker goes by quickly so it will be especially important to make the most of this very brief window of time. To enhance the desirability of the new “read” or “listen” function buttons, be sure your taglines are engaging, clear and concise!

The more viewers, the higher the ratings and increased visibility. Increased visibility enhanced viral growth. Be sure the associated photo/profile shot is easily seen and unique, then combine with a terrific tag line. Early adopters include Netflix, MyVideo, Hulu, The Daily and others.
