Google+ Getting a LOT More Important – Search + Your World
Yes, it’s true. While many small business owners have set aside Google+ as a “passing fad” fueled by bad information and inept reporting, social media marketing agencies are decidedly panicked….but not for the reasons you might think. No, they are not missing out on the opportunity nor worried about a drop in business…quite the contrary. Social media marketing firms and independent consultants alike are scurrying to play catch up as fast as possible. In fact, Google+ has just become one of the fastest growing initiatives in marketing history and has done the impossible…becoming even more important.
How Big?
Doomsayers have tried to paint a bleak picture of Google+ but the reality is something quite different. With over 70 million users and growing, Google+ is fast approaching Twitter’s total active user volume after only a few months. But, according to industry insiders….you haven’t seen anything yet!
Even Bigger
Google+ is going to get a lot bigger…fast. This is because Google search has just integrated the social search in their new Search plus Your World. This now merges the individual search criteria with social search including Google+ results. Now, when a search is performed, it will deliver individualized content based upon the unique interests of the user combined with top rating sites and services. For example, let’s assume a search for “Michael Vick” is performed by someone with a passion for NFL football and another person with a long history of animal advocacy. The results would reflect each individuals unique interest area by including football related results for the first and animal rights options for the second.
Up & Coming
Currently the Search plus Your World results are optional and only appear when the user is logged in; in fact, not all users are able to see these results fully yet as it is still in the early stages of distribution. Results are compiled from people in your “circle” group leading to criticism that users will be “trapped” within pre-defined search results. Whether or not the criticism is valid only time will tell but one thing is certain, Google+ is quickly becoming a small business necessity.
