Facebook Fanatics – Check This Out!
Does your small business depend upon Facebook for the majority of social media marketing needs? If so, this is a “must read” checklist designed to help prepare for upcoming changes. Like most social media consulting firms, we’re hard at work preparing for the upcoming advent of Facebook Timeline for Business owners but there are plenty of other important changes taking place as well. Keep reading to learn what to expect and how to prepare for even more changes, updates and tweaks to Facebook.
1. Bigger, Better, Bolder Ads! Ready or not, Facebook advertisements are getting bigger, better and bolder than ever before thanks to the dynamic duo of the Reach Generator and Premium advertisement placement options. According to Facebook, current advertising options reach roughly 16 percent of the user audience each week – given the sheer size of Facebook’s fan base, that is an impressive number. However, when the Reach Generator is implemented, advertisers are able to reach 50 percent on a weekly basis and a stunning 75 percent monthly. Mega users like Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream were able to reach 98 percent of their fans and double (Yes – DOUBLE) user engagement! Now those are some sweet numbers! (PS – Not sure what the “Reach Generator” is? Tune in tomorrow for more information).
2. Outta Sight Insight! Okay, this is a groovy new addition sure to excite small business owners from any generation; the new Insights function. Accessed via the Admin Panel, Insights will notify you of any changes while allowing small business owners access to several new and exciting functions. For example, it’s now possible to invite email affiliations, share pages and create advertisements from a “Build Audience” function key. It’s even possible to change the name of a specific page – perfect for creating customized mini-campaigns. But the fun doesn’t stop there; perhaps the most exciting of all Insight’s is the ability to obtain key information on other pages. Now it’s possible to see how many people are talking about a competitor, what their most popular product or post has been in recent weeks, or even the age group associated with their site. Remember, this only works for those that have already activated the new Timeline feature.
3. Gab With Your Groupies! Have Fans? Manage permission levels to turn on and off the ability to receive messages directly from visitors. In most instances, small business owners will want to allow customers to contact them directly especially since research validates the desire for consumers to obtain information directly via social media. On the other hand, it’s important to actually respond so make sure someone is responsible for communicating directly with clients on a timely basis.
4. Facebook Offers Coming Soon! Folks, this is going to be big so it is no exaggeration to say the time to start is NOW! In recent weeks we have covered the popularity of social coupons and of course, you already know how powerful Facebook is in the social media marketing arena. So, when Facebook decides to up the ante on discounts, it’s time for small business owners to take notice. What are Facebook Offers? Well, someone has already described them as “Facebook deals on steroids”. It’s an apt description! Currently only available to a very limited number of advertisers, Offers are expected to become widely available in the near future. Offers will allow small business owners to send out special promotions, discounts or coupons via the news feeds of your fans. Not only does this maximize visibility since News Feeds are highly visible to all fan connections, but the offer is activated when the usser clicks to the post and claims it. That action, in turn, is also shared with their entire network. Facebook already has the email alias of all active users so they will automatically receive the offer via inbox.
5. Bye-Bye Default Landing Page! In a welcome change of events, the default landing page is going the way of the dinosaur. Instead, small business owners will have the option of creating a customized welcome tab or selecting from a dozen different applications to offer clients. Only the top three will be pinned to the top row but the option of exchanging is possible simply by moving the apps around in much the same way you can adjust photograph’s now. Once again, this is a HUGE change with nearly endless possibilities for creating a unique look and feel for your social media presence.
6. Share Milestone Events! The same way that people want to share major milestone events like a marriage, anniversary or new addition to the family…so do small business owners. Now it’s possible to share milestone events to those that matter. Better yet, create a compelling history that provides a reference point for customers – include photographs, major product launch dates, historical accounts or other items of interest. It’s a great way to stay in contact but add a unique flair that engages the audience without always having to sell.
7.The Big Picture! This time we saved the best for last. Facebook is finally going to allow small business owners the choice of changing to a BIG cover photo image rather than lotsa little strips. How big? Well, big enough but for those that like specifics…the image space can be up to 850 pixels by 315 pixels. Like the consumer version, the profile picture will remain smaller but has now changed to the 180 x 180 pixel format making it the perfect size for a logo or other easily identified photo. The cover isn’t the only change taking place; larger formatted pinned posts, bigger video’s and other areas of the story are not only easier on the eye but provide greater control. For instance, you can change the date or pin a story to the top of a Timeline for up to one week rather than having to re-post the same thing over and over.
